The Hawks headed south to take on the 49ers for the second time in three weeks to not only try to end a 3 game slide on the season but also to stop the losing streak against the 9ers to three as well. After one lapse on defense CMC scampered for a 72 yard gain on his first carry and then Jordan Mason capped the drive off in the endzone on a 3 yard run. You could feel the tension from Hawks fans on if this game was going to get out of hand in a hurry after the rough outings the previous two weeks. This is where the Hawks turned this game around in the first half. They answered right back with a long strike to DK in the endzone and then taking the lead on the leg of Meyers to finish off the first quarter. Debo then collected a pair of touchdowns on either side of the break as they pulled ahead 21-10With 2 min to go in the 3rd. The Seahawks wasted no time driving down the field for a score of their own but missed the two point conversion failing to bring it within a field goal. The 9ers then cruised right back down with Kittle getting in on the action capping off 3 scores in 3 minutes between the two teams. They did reduce the number of penalties, but DK of course got a Unsportsmanlike conduct for 15 yards and an ejection from the game.
Drew Lock got the start with Geno still injured from a groin injury sustained during practice on the proceeding Thursday. It was a bit of a mixed bag. He had moments that looked good in his 22 for 31, 269 yard day that included two TD's but the two interceptions were too costly to overcome and the defense was a bit inconsistent with coverage assignment issues from Jamal Adams and Julian Love. No easy task when you are going up against this 9ers team, however missing tackles has been an issue all season. At the end of the day giving the ball away twice, having your D give up 527 yards and over 50% on 3rd downs as well as still being unable to convert on 3rd when they had the ball, converting just 2 of 11. The Hawks had some opportunities but just could quite get it done.
The playoffs are starting to get a little more complicated to get into. They will essentially need to win out to hit that 10-7 that I thought they would be this season but also the number that looks like will be necessary for them to get into the playoffs this year especially after losing both games to the Rams and 9ers putting them behind the eight ball in tie breakers meaning they will likely need help to get in even if they do run the table on the final four games. Seattle's season isn't over, but they will have to take care of business this week when they welcome the Eagles to town. Can they take advantage of a struggling Eagles team at Lumen field? The Nation will get a front row seat for the first ever game Flexed into the Monday Night Football Slot.
